With VoodooPC’s recent unveiling of its new AMD-powered system, it’s hardly surprising to hear that rival ‘cutting edge’ manufacturers Alienware has pushed its latest Intel-equipped offering toward the media spotlight—though there was some doubt surrounding the whole ‘Intel’ thing.
Alienware has now confirmed that it will indeed launch Intel’s second quad-core desktop processor—the 2.4GHz Core 2 Quad Q6600—through its ‘Area-51’ desktop PC. Alienware’s Area-51 7500 presently sells for approximately $2400 with Intel’s Core 2 Duo E6400 processor ‘inside’—with a QX6700 upgrade costing an additional $1250.
Though Alienware hasn’t confirmed the pricing for its Q6600 system, it’ll likely come in a little less than the combined upgrade costing. In terms of chip price, Intel sells its QX6700 for $1000, with its Q6600 sitting on shelves for $850.
